A more detailed Mission Statement
As I published the first Wordpress Theme “The Buckmaker” today, I went over the first finish line of this project. While developing the styles and templates, I also thought a lot of what to write about on The Buckmaker. My first intention was to post hints on “how to make money in the internet”.
Then I remembered one of the most important factors of success in all the Web 2.0 stuff: be UNIQUE. And writing about “how to get rich ..” is nothing that one could call one-of-a-kind.
However, there is a lot that I can write about this topic. I already have some very successful IT projects, all of them based on very simple configurations. They earn my me money, and all I have to do is keep them alive and running. Wordpress helped me a lot setting them up. This success is mainly due to hard work in the beginning and meditating over further improvements 24/7. I made a lot of mistakes, and I could show how to avoid them and get farer in shorter time.
But what’s unique about that? There are hundreds of bloggers writing about professional blogging and using social platforms and techniques for your success. By the way, I recommend Darren Rowse’s “Problogger” for all the things you should know about professional writing in the internet.
So where is my niche? One discipline I really became good at is “iplementing ads” into your sites. No matter if we’re talking about Adsense, Zanox, Amazon or other programs - I spent a lot of time making the ads on my blogs work very well. Not just by integrating them nicely into the Theme, but also having the right ad at the right place (at the right time). This may sound like a bunch of work, but in the end it’s about how high your payouts are, right?
It’s not only about how your ads look like. If I would just write about how to blend your adsense ads perfectly so that your visitors can’t tell the difference between content and ad, I would soon run out of topics to write about. But good advertising is so much more than just the look. You have to care about interests of your target audience, their livestyle and experiences, the context in which you place your ads, and the question of questions: Why should anyone click this ad or buy something at Amazon - what is the motivation behind? How can I get from ad-targeted content (as the unspeakable mfa-made for adsense-sites) to user-targeted ads? How can I provide useful content and really do something good for my readers, and earn (even more) money in some kind of secondary effect?
How does this sound to you? Is this a niche worth writing about?
