Can I sign up for hostmonster with an existing domain?

hostmonster

Absolutely! hostmonster is open to be used with a domain registered at another registrar. When you register for a hosting account with hostmonster, you are asked to choose a new domain or register with a domain that you currently own. You can choose either and it has no bearing on your choice of hostmonster as your host.

If you want to use hostmonster without changing your domain, there is a small procedure that has to be followed. You will have to contact your current domain registrar and have the nameservers of your domain changed to the ones hostmonster provides and modify DNS settings to point to your website. This will usually take a day or so after which you will be running your website with the same name but from hostmonster. While you can use hostmonster with the same domain, it is advisable to transfer your domain to the hostmonster registrar. This way you can claim the free domain that comes with the hosting plan and any issues that you may have can be easily coordinated and solved.

hostmonster accepts transfers of domains that have .com, .org, .net, .biz, .info and .us extensions only. If you have a domain with another extension, your best bet may be to claim the free domain from hostmonster and use it as your domain of choice.
