Blogs that thrive have a mix of both timely and evergreen topics. Picking up on the trendy in not that hard. Keep up with the news and reading other blogs will do the trick. Hitting on a stable of ever green topics however can be a bit more of a challenge. Today we will look at how you can choose evergreen topics.
1. Think about your niche area. What draws people to this area? Is it the need for practical skills or pure entertainment?
2. Find out what your readers need in order to follow up on this interest. If instruction is required then you have instant evergreen.
3. Look for topics that are related to seasonal or annual events. If they happen regularly then people will be looking for information on it when the event when it comes around again. You may only get a seasonal spike in traffic from these posts, but since it can be viewed and reviewed it is evergreen.
4. Are there any perpetual issues in your niche? If one exists then you can always offer well thought out opinions or research on the topic. When people are in search of information on it they can find your post.
5. Is your niche one that attracts a lot of newbies? If so then you should consider a few introductory posts geared towards these newbies. You may get some regular readers out of this tactic as well.
Of course, you will not want to spend a lot of time duplicating content that can be found on other sites. At least not directly. If you can find a new angle on a topic it will be a great traffic source.
